Saturday, January 7th

 The Nasdaq and the Dow (the Dow was pointed out January 4th) have yet to break their downward trend lines, while the NYSE and the SPX have broken through theirs. This will often lead to choppy intra-day action as all the indices are tied together through the various investment vehicles (ie mutual funds, ETF's etc).

 The Philadelphia Bank Index is down 15.79 % over the past eighteen months. FAZ, an ETF designed to short these financials, is down 53.20 %.

Financials Make their Move


 The US Banking Index ($BKX) has shown considerable strength since bottoming in October. There is still the 200 DMA to contend with, but - as has been repeatedly said here for some time - there is no easy money in being a bear (especially) when everyone else is.

 US banks have finally broken through a channel on a comparison chart with the SPX.

Convergence




 The markets continue to defy all odds, but short-term traders on the bullish side should be cautious right about now.

 There's a trend line convergence here ...

 Which also coincides with the half way point on a pattern that would take the Indoos to the 12733 area.





 Then there's the 1200 point gain since late November to consider.
